Mazor Robotics, Ltd.

Mazor Robotics (www.mazorrobotics.com) is dedicated to the development and marketing of innovative surgical robots and complementing products that optimize patient outcomes and provide a safer surgical environment for patients, surgeons and operating room staff. Mazor’s pipeline includes innovative products that will reshape the way surgeons perform surgery.

The Challenge

To enhance its product offering, Mazor sought after a viable solution to develop and market an add-on to existing C-Arm technology (ubiquitous operating room imaging systems), whereby 2D scans could be easily converted to rotatable 3D images intra-operatively. This new technology would enable CT (computer tomography) scanning to be performed in the operating room, complying with these requirements:

  • Increase utilization of low-cost equipment currently available in most operating rooms (e.g., mobile C-Arm X-ray machine) with minimal investment
  • Maintain minimal radiation exposure
  • Perform intra-operative procedures during operations
  • Easy to integrate with a wide range of C-Arm makes and models
  • Cost efficient

The Solution

Mazor Robotics partnered with RTC Vision to develop C-InSight ®, a new and innovative product approved by the CE and FDA, transforms standard X-ray equipment already in the operating room (e.g., mobile C-Arm), into a CT machine that can reconstruct a patient’s organs during surgery.

Based on RTC Vision’s sophisticated algorithms, the C-InSight workstation generates high image quality with minimal artifacts by implants, providing slice-by-slice views of intra-articular surfaces. Further, C-InSight provides 3D images at radiation exposure levels as low as 5-10% when compared to other intra-operative 3D scans, making the procedure safer for both the surgeon and the patient, often eliminating the need for a post-operative CT scan.

Easy and intuitive, C-InSight quickly connects to any C-Arm with a video output (via BNC cable) and converts 2D scans to 3D images in just two minutes. C-InSight is both affordable and cost-effective, making 3D scanning available to any medical facility, and helping to improve surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
